Prince Caspian pales in comparison

last night Eva and I went to see Prince Caspian. the Tomatometer currently sits at 69% approval, and that feels just about right. the film holds the fantasy, but lacks the feel of the first one (The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe). Prince Caspian, sadly, is predictable. we encounter the precipitating event, experience a brief discovery, suffer an initial defeat, regroup with humility, and then win the final battle with courage.

one twist does redeem the story, however: the hero is not who the typical storyline would suggest. we’re meant to expect the rightful Prince to return and establish a kingdom of peace. but, we all know it will be Aslan, but it still makes you gasp when he actually appears and enters the fray. I’ll admit, I cried.

it’s this simple…every ounce of my soul aches to be rescued. assuredly, the film urges us to seek and find, to keep looking, anticipating, and asking for Aslan to come. amen, come Lord Jesus. we don’t need a son of Adam, we need the second Adam. Caspian pales in comparison to our Christ.

and here’s a fun mental adventure - if you see the film, see how many parallels you can find to the story of Exodus.

too bad they cut out some of that part where Aslan confronts Lucy about trusting her convictions, but i guess they had to make it appealing to the masses… great observations on your review tho!
